Veterans Advocacy Project

Veterans Advocacy Project is Public Law Center’s program providing civil legal assistance to former military service members and their families. PLC’s Veterans Project was established in honor of Captain Matthew Patrick-Manoukian, United States Marine Corps, 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, who was killed in combat in 2012 in Afghanistan. Captain Manoukian deployed twice each to Iraq and Afghanistan, where he worked to train local police forces, open schools, and courts and establish the rule of law. The Orange County-born son of two judges, Captain Manoukian had been accepted to law school and planned to enter after returning from Afghanistan. As we created our outreach program to Military Veterans in 2012, we kept Captain Manoukian’s service in mind, constantly striving to provide the highest levels of service to our Veteran clients.

PLC assists veterans and their families with:

  • Clearing of criminal records
  • Housing issues – including landlord/tenant and Section 8/HUD-VASH
  • Military discharge upgrade applications
  • VA and other public benefits
  • Other civil legal issues
